Well, this recent story in this comic has gotten out of hand.
The story all could have been told in one issue but it is so stretched out over the last three (this being the fourth).
The only saving grace of the whole thing is the art of John Romita Jr.
He makes the whole thing look better than it has any right to be. Without his art, I might have given up on this.
The book starts out with a flashback. Young Justice appears on the scene of the battle. It immediately felt crammed in, like Bendis was trying force the team in.
And man, it is obvious.
It isn’t long before Superman shows up however. It is a nice entrance at least.
Then, Bendis has the story shift in time again in an incredibly annoying way. It is such an incredibly bad transition that I just about threw my hands up. It really has to be seen to believed. It is a mess.
And that is what the rest of the issue felt like: a jumbled and garbled mess.
So, the rest of the issue is basically Superman teaming up with a whole bunch of characters. They are all trying to stop Lex Luthor and Brainiac.
Everyone Bendis can shoehorn in, he does. Batman shows up as well as Naomi and the Justice League and more. It truly is overindulgent.
By the end of the issue, there is a big threat to Earth coming from the sky. It is sad because it is so boring and trite. I can care less about this threat to earth.
Oh well.
At least it looks nice enough with the art.
