This has been a series that has been a run a bit hot and cold for me up until this issue.
There are definitely some things in the title that I liked, but then then are some things that I just didn’t care for. It really has been hit or miss for me. That being said, this issue is definitely the strongest issue of the series thus far.
The opening of this book has Wally on an alternate Earth. Wally and a bunch of other people are all falling from the sky. Wally tries to get his bearings. He does his best to keep it all together.
Then, he encounters another Superman. But this isn’t the Superman we know.
This is the Superman of Vampires.
There is a funny line of dialogue here where Wally says that the last Superman he met was President of the United States. He also says that he liked that Superman better than the Superman of Vampires. It is a funny little bit.
Then, Wally goes toe to toe with this whacked out version of Superman.
The fight is pretty much a joy to read thanks to strong visuals from artist Brett Booth. But then, something really cool happens. A vampire version of Barry Allen appears and starts to cause some real havoc.
The fight between Wally and this crazy version of Barry is utterly spectacular. This eventually leads to Arsenal saving Wally from the evil Barry. The two of them go on a trip.
They eventually meet up with an alternate version of Batman. There is a fight. And then it leads to a tragic ending which has to be read to be believed.
This is a pretty good issue. I hope the rest of the series is like this. If they can keep it up, this could turn out to actually be a worthwhile series. The creative team turned it up this issue and it is very good.
