This issue promised the final fate of Rogol Zaar!
Thankfully, it’s not a moment too soon.
Zaar has to be one of the most boring villains to come down the pike in quite some time.
I’ll be happy if we never see the character again. He’s truly a snooze every time he shows up and starts doing his shtick.
The beginning of this issue has Superman getting riled up to finish off his enemies once and for all. The artwork here is great.
However, there’s not much else beyond that. Everyone gets all fired up and then a big battle erupts.
Bendis sets up a big battle royale.
This is what the last thirteen issues have been leading towards.
And I can’t help but feel as being a little cheated. Okay, I feel a lot cheated. There was so much potential here that just got caught up in lame storytelling and hard to follow fights. I can’t believe it took so long to get to this dull point of the story.
And what was the point of the entire thing? Why, it was to reintroduce the Legion of Superheroes. That’s right. That was the whole point of it. It felt like a sales gimmick and not a story driven moment so then I just tuned right out.
Ivan Reis did a great job here and on the other issues. It’s too bad too. This could have been amazing. Instead, it never felt as if it got off the ground.
