‘Female Furies #6’ (review)

Written by Cecil Castellucci
Illustrated by Adriana Melo
Published by DC Comics

This wonderful mini-series comes to an end. It’s been really great.

Cecil Castellucci has written a really wonderful comic and the passion is apparent on each and every page. I loved the whole entire thing. This issue is a satisfying conclusion to the entire series.

The opening scene has Big Barda trying to unite the women of Apokolips. She wants to unite the women so they can get the respect they deserve.

Until they do, Barda proposes a strike! She proposes that they stop all of the work they’re doing until they get what they want.

And unfortunately, it ends with Barda getting something thrown in her face as a result of her proposal.

The women of Apokolips are not having it. It forces Barda her gang to run away! It’s actually a hard scene to read because it’s so strong.

That is part of the power of Castellucci’s writing on this series. It’s some pretty powerful and pointed material.

From there, we see Granny Goodness kissing up to Darkseid. He is getting ready to confront Barda and the other Four Female Furies. Castellucci really lays some amazing groundwork here. By the time we get to the inevitable fight, all of the stakes are raised as high as they possibly can be.

The conclusion of this fight is much different than normal superhero fare for sure. I expected as much, but the creative team really bring the whole story home well. The ending felt right.

Melo was the perfect artist for this book and does a spot on job on this last issue. The pair of creators have taken these background characters and really have given them a new lease on life. I doubt anyone will ever be able to show the characters any other way except like this from now on. That’s quite an accomplishment, indeed.

RATING: A
