The complete library of all Cul de Sac cartoons and more! In addition to every Cul de Sac cartoon ever published, selections of Thompson’s pre-syndication Cul de Sac art are included in this affordable, paperback boxed set.
Cul de Sac began newspaper syndication in September 2007 and ended in September 2012, when creator Richard Thompson retired to focus on treatment for Parkinson’s disease. In its too-short time on the comics page, Cul de Sac garnered an avid fan base, a Reuben and a Harvey Award, and remarkable admiration from the cartooning community. In tribute to the strip, all the published cartoons are gathered here–as a bonus, there are selections of Richard Thompson’s pre-syndication Cul de Sac watercolored Sundays.
If you haven’t discovered Richard Thompson’s wonderful Cul de Sac comic strip, you are in for a real treat. Cul de Sac is noted not only for its humor and intelligence, but also for creator Richard Thompson’s fun, imaginative watercolor artwork. Thompson’s drawings, along with his pitch-perfect timing and gentle humor, made the cartoon an instant classic.
Cul de Sac is brought to life through manhole-dancing Alice Otterloop, a curious four-year-old who discovers life’s ups and downs in suburbia. Along with her Blisshaven Preschool classmates, Alice charms fans of all ages with her escapades. From crafting projects in a cloud of glitter and glue or just trying to comprehend a completely incomprehensible world, Alice is a creature of pure and indomitable will, an irresistible force.
Alice describes her father’s car as a “Honda-Tonka Cuisinart” and talks to the class guinea pig, Mr. Danders. Alice is joined by her family: her older brother Petey who is intent on being the King of the Picky Eaters; her dad, who’s the Assistant Director of Pamphlets at the U.S. Department of Consumption, Office of Consumer Complaints; and her mom, who is capable of doing a million things simultaneously (about five of them well).
This library of cartoons and art will both delight longtime fans and provide a fantastic introduction to new readers.
Includes an introduction by Art Spiegelman.
Archie: The Swingin’ Sixties – The Complete Daily Newspaper Comics (1963-1965)
Continuing the Eisner Award-winning series collecting the Archie newspaper strip, we reach the mid-1960s when the now-famous cast of Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, and Reggie are part of a rich ensemble presented by cartoonist Bob Montana. In addition to Fred and Mary Andrews (Archie’s mom and pop) and Veronica’s father, Mr. Lodge, Montana weaves gags around the entire staff of Riverdale High, including Mr. Weatherbee, Miss Grundy, Mr. Flutesnoot, Miss Shapely, and Miss Beazly, among others. As Bart Beaty notes, “The strip is not so much about Archie as it is about the interaction of all those characters who exist in his orbit. The relatively large cast is particularly suited to the gag-a-day format.” Includes more than 800 comics from April 1963 through the end of 1965.
Popeye: The Classic Newspaper Comics by Bobby London V. 2 (1989-1992)
Bobby London’s take on the Sailor Man has often been overshadowed by his being fired from the strip in 1992, ostensibly for presenting a storyline that was an allegory about abortion. In that ultimate tale, Olive had become addicted to the Home Shopping Network and ordered a Baby Brutus mechanical doll. When Popeye insists that she get rid of the “baby,” two priests mistakenly believe that the baby is real and that Olive is going to exercise her pro-choice rights. King Features Syndicate pulled the final three weeks of strips and daily newspapers began running reprints. Story over in mid-stream. Now, twenty-two years later, thanks to the kind cooperation of the good folks at King Features, those three weeks will be included in this second volume of the IDW series. But wait… that’s not all! Turns out that Bobby London produced an additional six weeks of strips beyond the three that were pulled from syndication! This book contains – for the first time anywhere – all nine weeks of “censored” Bobby London Popeye strips. Trust us, it’s worth the wait!
Superman: The Silver Age Newspaper Dailies V. 2: 1961-1963

Siegel and Boring offer alternate versions of now classic stories originally written by Siegel himself, Batman co-creator Bill Finger, Edmund Hamilton, and Leo Dorfman – and drawn in comic books by Curt Swan, Al Plastino, Kurt Schaffenberger, and Boring himself. Stories include “The Feud Between Superman and Clark Kent,” “The Day Superman Broke the Law,” “The Reporter of Steel,” “Lois Lane’s Revenge on Superman,” “The Invisible Lois Lane,” and “The Man Who Betrayed Superman’s Identity,” among others. More than 750 daily strips – over two two years worth of stories – from Earth-N (for Newspapers) that comic book fans have not previously seen. Edited and designed by Dean Mullaney, Introduction by Sid Friedfertig, and cover drawing by Pete Poplaski.

Peters. The strip lasted a little more than a year and a half – from May 1, 1944 until December 1, 1945 – and is reprinted here for the first time. It all starts on Paradise Island where Amazonian women rule supreme and no men are allowed. Led by Princess Diana, their way of life is about to change when when Steve Trevor, a wounded American soldier, washes up on their shores. Twenty-something guitarist Aksel stutters when he sings, and the latest reviews say he has the voice of a crow with throat plague. There are also the rival bands that Perkeros find themselves in battle with to save the city from supernatural forces set loose by ancient music.
